Jenny Randerson - Standing up for Cardiff Central

Randerson calls on Plaid: "tell Wales where you stand"

11.25.17am BST (GMT +0100) Thu 13th Sep 2007

As Plaid start their Autumn conference, Welsh Lib Dem AM Jenny Randerson issued a challenge to Ieuan Wyn Jones:

"Welsh Lib Dems will judge this Cabinet on what they do. But the early messages from Plaid Cymru are very confusing.

"People who voted for Plaid in South West Wales will want to know if Ieuan Wyn Jones and his cabinet colleagues will be opposing dredging with Dai Lloyd - or supporting heavy industry working in the Gower with Labour.

"People who voted for Plaid in North Wales want to know if Ieuan will be campaigning with Gareth Jones for neurosurgery in Aberconwy - or backing Edwina Hart's proposal to move it to South Wales.

"What will they do when the UK government wants to build new nuclear power stations in Wales? Will they press on with plans for the M4 Relief Road? Will they be able to offer anything more than warm words to farmers struggling with a second outbreak of disease?

"Plaid backbenchers are talking opposition, while their own ministers are talking government. Where's the link-up, where's the connection?

"I hope Plaid will use this conference to clarify these issues. The tensions that have emerged over the summer will only become more intense once the Assembly returns next week."
