Without unlocking private money, capital projects will stall

Speaking after the publication of the Assembly Finance Committee's report into Public Private Partnerships, Welsh Lib Dem Spokesperson for Finance and Committee Member, Jenny Randerson said:

"This report makes it clear that it is possible to get good value for money for the taxpayer from private money through effective partnerships. Just because Labour has cost the taxpayer millions of pounds through conventional PFI, it does not mean we have to rule out private money completely.

"The damage that the Labour/Plaid government has done over the last few months by ruling out PFI without filling the capital funding shortfall is extremely worrying. We have lost out on millions of pounds of capital investment compared to Northern Ireland and Scotland. This coalition government is more about dogma than doing.

"I hope the Government takes the committee's findings forward, in particular the need to establish a central body to support partnership working."
