Jenny Randerson - Standing up for Cardiff Central

A People's Bank for Wales - Randerson comment

1.49.00pm GMT Tue 3rd Mar 2009

Commenting on the suggestion that the Welsh Assembly Government will look to set up a 'People's bank' to fill the void caused by the current lack of access to credit, Welsh Lib Dem Shadow Minister for the Economy, Jenny Randerson AM said:

"It's an interesting idea, but will only work to help Welsh businesses and families if it's more than just a gimmick. I would also suggest to the Finance Minister that he needs to look first at the fundamental problems with Finance Wales, a WAG owned merchant bank which charges very high rates of interest to Welsh businesses.

"A people's bank is all well and good, but we should never forget that it was the Labour party which created this unsustainable, de-regulated system of banking which has played such a large part in wrecking our economy."
