Jenny Randerson wants Wales to become a world leader in science and engineering
|
Speaking at the start of National Science and Engineering Week, Welsh Lib Dem Shadow Economy Minister, Jenny Randerson AM has called for the Welsh Assembly Government to help develop engineering and science based industries across Wales.
Jenny Randerson said: "This recession is teaching us that there needs to be far more long term planning and investment in high-skilled, knowledge based jobs. I would like to see Wales lead the world in science based research and development, which would bring in millions of pounds of investment, create direct and indirect employment and improve our economy.
"For example, Cardiff University has a very respected Engineering Department but very few of its graduates stay in Wales. We need to ensure that engineering and science based businesses see Wales as the future for their development in order to ensure that Wales never gets into the economic hole it is in now."
